BOOK COVER
The author approached me to design the book cover, feeling that my visual style would be a good fit for the story. The book explores difficult themes including a troubled childhood, emotional and physical abuse, oppression, and life on the streets.
The concept for the cover came from the book’s title, “Apzīmogotais” (“The Marked One”). Children don’t get to choose their parents, and this idea became central to the design. The main character’s path was shaped before he was even born — by an alcoholic mother and an intensely religious grandmother.
The goal was to create a cover that reflects the weight of the story and gives the reader a sense of what lies inside. In this case, the book is meant to be judged by its cover.
